Courtney Burnett-Huinink

Courtney is a teacher with the Durham District School Board, teaching Physical Education to all grades and coaching both volleyball and basketball in the elementary school setting.  She also organizes a number of leadership development opportunities at her school, encouraging youth.   In her spare time, Courtney coaches women’s field lacrosse, and is a personal trainer.

Courtney has been an assistant coach in the 14U and 13U divisions. 
 


David Cardinal

Dave is a teacher with the Durham Catholic District School board where he has been teaching at Monsignor John Pereyma for the last 11 years.  He has coached the Junior Boys and Girls Volleyball teams and Varsity Boys Lacrosse team.  

Dave is also involved in many drama productions such as My Fair Lady, Of Mice and Men, and most recently will be in 12 Angry Men beginning September. Dave has also produced and starred in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Dave is looking forward to coaching with Durham Attack, assisting with the 16U Red team, and brings a new dimension that will be a great help this season.
 


Robert Chung

Robert is a volleyball fanatic, and one of the most respected coaches in the province.  Nothing gives him greater pleasure than working with athletes of all ages.  As the founder and head coach of the Chinese nine men volleyball club Connex, Robert has won numerous titles and championships.  As a member of the coaching staff at Bronte Beach and Durham Attack, he has worked with numerous teams that have medaled at their respective Provincial and National Championships. 

Robert is renowned for his technical knowledge and is s setting specialist.  He has worked with girls and boys teams of all ages over the years.

Working with players from the club level to the Provincial programs he is renowned for his setting knowledge and scouting ability.  For 2009-2010 Robert will be working in our 15U program.
 


John Dean

John is in his fourth year of coaching with Durham Attack.  2009-2010 finds John in the position of Assistant Coach for the girls 16U Black team.  Hoping to build on the skills and progress the girls have made the past three years, he is looking forward to another great year.

A Mechanical Engineer by trade, John loves all sports.  He is a competitive cyclist as well as an avid golfer.  He races Downhill Mountain bikes and was ranked 4th provincially before retirement in 2006.

John was assistant coach for the Regional Team in the Summer of 2009.

John looks forward to working with the 16U Black team and helping them to grow and achieve their goals throughout the year.


Chris Dunn

As a Phys Ed teacher at Captain Michael Vandenbos, Chris is used to working with athletes of all levels to improve their athletic skills.

He coaches volleyball, basketball and track, and has led a number of junior and intermediate girls volleyball teams to DEAA championships. 

We're fortunate to have Chris develop our younger athletes, who are so important to the future success of the club.


Ian Eibbitt

Ian has vast volleyball experience as an athlete competing on the Canada Summer Games team in 1987 and continuing his playing career on the Pro Beach Tour during the late '80's to mid '90's with his partner Marc Roberts.

For the past 22 years Ian has been involved with Madawaska Volleyball Camp.  He developed the exclusive beach camp at Madawaska and is currently the Director of both Madawaska Volleyball Camp and All-Sports Camp.

Ian was also involved in volleyball through his co-ownership of Overkill from 1991 to 2009, a sports clothing company that is an enthusiastic supporter and sponsor of volleyball in Canada, and a great friend of Durham Attack.  

In 1998 and again in 2009 Ian was the recipient of Recognition Awards from the Ontario Volleyball Association for outstanding contributions to the sport of volleyball.  He has also chaired committees for the Ontario Volleyball Association as well as Volleyball Canada.

Ian also runs very successful Teambuilding and Leadership camps for clubs and rep teams at Camp Walden, and as we expand our participation in this camp it will become one of the signature components of our program.

In 2008-2009 Ian helped lead our 18U girls to the 18U National Championship.  He will be back for 2009-2010 to help our 18U's capture the title again.
 


Lisa Elliott

Lisa Elliott has been a member of the Durham Attack coaching staff for five years.  Lisa is a teacher with the Durham District School board and coaches young athletes in both volleyball and basketball.  She has worked in the 15U-16U program and was an assistant coach in 2004 to the 15U National Bronze Medalists and an assistant coach in 2005 with the 16U Provincial Bronze medalists.  Lisa is the calm, quiet, responsible one on the coaching staff who listens to the players and adds wisdom and perspective to any situation.
 

Curtis Gilfillan

Originally a boys coach with the Provincial and National Champion 2003 16U boys, Curtis took some time away to coach in the U.S., winning a high school state title in Florida and winning a provincial title in 2007 with the 18U Game Hens. 

Last season Curtis coached our 17U girls to National bronze and Provincial silver medals.

Curtis will continue to work his magic with the 17U Black girls in 2009-2010.
 


Lindsay Gosse

Lindsay is one of the original Durham Attack girls, having played in the first two years of our club.  She attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, where she was a constant figure on the volleyball team, serving as captain and earning MVP awards for each of her last few years.  More info on our alumni page.  

During 2007-2008 Lindsay helped coach our 18U girls to a National Bronze medal.  In 2008-2009 she was an important factor in our 18U Girls winning the National 18U Championship. 
 


Chris Graham

We're thrilled to have Chris back with us and working with our athletes, teaching what he has learned in a long and distinguished club and varsity career.

Chris starting playing volleyball at the age of 10 in Grade 4 at Meadowcrest P.S.  After 9 years of school ball, 7 years with Durham Attack, Chris played Libero for the University of Western Ontario, where he graduated from Kinesiology in 2009.   team site...

Kevin Hellyer

Kevin Hellyer joined the Durham Attack coaching staff in the Fall of 1999.  Since then he has had a huge impact on the Club and has developed many of the top athletes in the province.  In 2002 he was the assistant coach of the 16U Western National Champions and in 2004 he was the head coach of the 15U Eastern Canadian Bronze medalists and the 2005 16U Provincial Bronze medalists.   In 2007 Kevin coached our 14U Black girls to their first National Championship.  In 2008 Kevin's 15U Girls won Ontario 15U and 16U championships as well as the 15U Nationals East Championship.  In 2009 his 15U girls won Silver medals at both Nationals East and Nationals West.

In 2009 Kevin received a Recognition Award from the Ontario Volleyball Association for his outstanding contribution to the sport of volleyball in the province.

Kevin is an enthusiastic coach who teaches his athletes the values of hard work and the joy of achieving success as both an individual and as a member of the team.  He has been the lead coach at the Durham Attack girls summer camp and is eager to help young athletes fall in love with volleyball.  He supports his girls year round, following their progress on the beach during the summer.

When Kevin is not in the gym or on the beach court somewhere, he is an avid hockey player.
 


Lindsey Johnson

We're proud to have Lindsey back and following in the Johnson family tradition of developing some of the best volleyball athletes in the province.

Lindsey played for four years with Durham Attack before taking a position as setter and libero for Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.  team site...

Lindsey’s accomplishments include:

  • 2007 - selected as Lakehead's choice to attend the OUA Women of Influence Luncheon
  • 2007 - starting setter for Lakehead
  • Recipient of Lakehead Thunderwolves Coaches Award for both 2005-2006 and 2006-2007
  • 2005-2006 - Highest digs per game in Canada as Libero for Lakehead Thunderwolves
  • 2004 - All Star Setter Award at the Ontario Summer Games

Lindsey credits her love of the game to her first club coach, Janet Cairns, and sends thanks to all the coaches that have touched her volleyball life.
 


Julie Lefaive

This is Julie's third year coaching with Durham Attack.  Julie started off as a Parent Rep in 2006 with the 13U White Team, and quickly fell in love with the sport of volleyball.  In 2007/08 Julie switched from the Parent Rep/Mom role, to the role of Assistant Coach with the 13U Girls Black Team.  After a season with the 14U girls, this season Julie is once again assisting with the 15U girls, and is looking forward to an exciting year of volleyball!

Off the court Julie is an Executive Assistant at Sony Canada, in the Supply Chain Group Division, where she has worked for the past 15 years.
 


Kevin Leung

Kevin Leung is no stranger to the game of volleyball.  From an early age he was a fixture in the gym, following his brother Hoi around to practices and tournaments.   Kevin played with the Scarborough Solars and Bronte Beach volleyball clubs in the 90's and has been a member of the coaching staff with both Bronte Beach and the Titans Volleyball Club.  

During 2006-2007 Kevin helped coach the 16U Black team to the Ontario, National East and National West Championships.  

We look for more great things from Kevin this year as he works with our 15U Red athletes. 
 


Jacek Lewicki

Jacek is returning to Durham Attack for his second year of coaching.  He has extensive coaching experience that and a solid foundation as a player.  Jacek played on the adult semi-professional volleyball club RKS Sarmata in Poland, while still in high school.  After arriving in Toronto he played adult A/AA OVA club volleyball but was forced to retire after 2 seasons due to a back injury.

As a high school Health and Physical Education teacher in Toronto Jacek has coached junior/senior boys and girls volleyball teams for the past 15 years.  In 2002 he led a team to qualify for OFSSA championship, without having any OVA players on the roster.  Jacek was also the assistant coach of the Seneca College varsity mens volleyball team for 4 years, with the best being an OCAA bronze medal.
 

Paul McGrath

Paul joined the club as a House League dad.  He was then promoted to the U12 program and finally drafted to the 14U program where he coached the Silver team in the 2004 season and the Black team in the 2005 season.   A club player from before,  and seasoned Beach player, Paul brings a wealth of knowledge to the game and a desire to understand the young athlete. 

Always smiling, Paul encourages his players to do their best and as a result his teams were back-to-back National Champions in 2006 and 2007.  One of the few non-teachers in the club, Paul can also be found chasing his son around the arenas or playing slow-pitch out on the diamonds.
 


Linda Naccarato

Linda has been with Durham Attack for four years, as a house league coach, a SPIKES coach, and as assistant coach for 13U Black, 14U Red and 15U Red girls.  Linda will be part of the coaching staff of the 16U program this year.

Outside of her club duties, Linda has been coaching for ten years at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School
where her teams have been the DCDSB Champions four out of five years, placing in the top four for two out of three years at the Elementary Provincial Championships.  Her team was also the Provincial Champions for the Catholic cup in 2007.

Linda's other interests include pottery and Kickboxing (where she has a brown belt).  She is currently an occasional teacher with DCDSB and an instructor at the Pickering Potters Studio.
 


Arif Nathoo

Arif Nathoo has retired from the university coaching ranks and joins Durham Attack as a full-time coach to head our 14U program and coach our 14U Black team. 

Arif graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master’s degree in exercise and health.  He was an assistant coach for the women’s volleyball team under Merv Mosher and Hernan Humana from 1992-96.  That stint led to a successful nine-year run as head coach of the Ryerson Rams, highlighted by the school’s first trip to post-season play in 2000, and CIS National Championships in 2002. 

Arif returned to York in 2005-2006 and became head coach in 2006-2007.  In 2008-2009 he led York to the OUA women's volleyball championship.

Arif is a Level III certified coach.  He was named OUA Coach of the Year in 1999-2000, and 2008-2009.  He was the head coach of Ontario's Canada Summer Games womens' team for 2009, and coached the team to a Silver medal in PEI.
 


Troy Neill

Troy has been involved in volleyball most of his life, on the court all through school, including playing for Trent University’s Varsity team. Troy has also played seasonal beach volleyball.

He had spent the last 10 years coaching hockey and soccer teams though fortunately 2 years ago joined up with Durham Attack and coached a very successful year with one of the best developmental coaches in the game, Chris Dunn. Together Troy and Chris developed young players on the 13U White team in 2008/2009; many of these players made the 14U Black team the following year, a testament to the program they ran together.

Troy is very passionate about the game and the development of the young players. Troy is usually found smiling and having fun with the players, making practices and games always enjoyable for the players which is particularly important in the developmental/first years of volleyball.

We look forward to seeing what Troy and Chris accomplish with this year’s 13U Red team!

 


Roland Perau

Roland is returning for his second year of coaching with Durham Attack. As an indoor player he played club volleyball with the Scarborough Solars, and made it to the final cut for the junior national team.  He also played the beach circuit when it was just starting in Ontario.  He has just gotten back into playing in 2008 with Invado and Out of Hand.

As a coach he has coached women's teams for the Scarborough Solars and coached the senior girls team at Crestwood S.S. under the guidance of Norm Dysart.

 

Rob Piccione

Rob Piccione is an NCCP level II certified Indoor and Beach volleyball coach and has been a teacher at Ajax High School for 11 years.

He coached for the Scarborough Titans Volleyball Club from 1997-1999 and was a member of the Titans Juvenile and Midget girls Provincial and National teams’ coaching staff.

Rob coached our 14U girls to a Nationals East Silver medal in 2008-2009, and is heading up our 15U Girls program this season.  We foresee great things from that group of girls.
 


Darryl Reid

For the 2009-2010 season Darryl will  take on the challenge of being head coach of the 16u Red team.  Darryl looks forward to working with Kevin, Mike, John, and Linda to develop a great 16u Program.

As an Educational Assistant at Monsignor John Pereyma High School, Darryl is the head coach of the Senior Boys and Girls Volleyball teams.  Darryl encourages each athlete to develop a passion for competition that comes from within.  Hard work, dedication, and a team first attitude will be the expectation of 16u Red.  As is always the case, Darryl will have tremendous support from his wife Natalie who continues to be supportive of his passion and commitment to Durham Attack.   As well 4 year old Kylie, and 1 year old Alyssa will be close to Daddy's side on the volleyball court.

Outside of volleyball, Darryl has led the Oshawa Junior Legionaires, a 19-21 year old baseball team, to an undefeated regular season and a Silver Medal at the Provincial Championships, with an overall record of 36-3.  He will look to use this experience to motivate and guide each Durham Attack athlete to achieve their full potential.
 


Mike Slean

Mike is the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Durham Attack, and has been instrumental in the development of our individual athletes and our teams.  He is the personal trainer for our 2009 Provincial team athletes.  He was the team trainer for Big Black, who in 2009 won their fifth straight National Championship.

Mike represented Canada on the FIVB World Tour for seven years.  During that time he took a 5th at the Pan American Games and a 17th at the World Championships.

Indoors, as captain of the University of Toronto mens' team, Mike won 5 OUAA Championships.  In his 5 seasons, Mike was named OUAA Rookie of the Year, 5 Time First Team Ontario All-Star, 2 time OUAA Playoff MVP and 4 times was recognized as an All-Canadian.

Currently Mike plays indoor volleyball with the Toronto Blues Brothers and the Master’s National Team.  On the beach, Mike took a third in Elite Men’s Provincials in 2007.

A fitness consultant and personal trainer, Mike's company Team 12 Training provides our strength and conditioning training.  During the summer Solstice Sport, in partnership with Mark Reilly, also provides a summer beach program for many of our players. 


Evan Williams

Evan Williams is leading our girls 18U Black coaching staff for 2009-2010 as they endeavour to repeat as National Champions.   He has been a member of the Durham Attack coaching staff for seven years and has worked hard to develop our athletes as they have risen through the ranks. 

In 2009 Evan led 18U 'Big Black' to their fifth consecutive Provincial and National championship.  For the summer of 2009 Evan was head coach of Team Ontario 17U.  As head coach within Durham Attack Evan has also won the 2005 14U Provincial and National Championships, the 2006 15U Provincial and National Championships, and a 2007 18U National Bronze medal.   He was the Volleyball Prospects 17U coach for the summer of 2008.

He has represented Region 4 as the Athlete Development Chair and was named the OVA Developmental Coach of the Year in 2007.

At the university level Evan has acted as assistant coach at the University of Waterloo, and for the past three years has been assistant coach at the University of Western Ontario, where he continues to coach today.

Our 18U Black girls are in great hands for their final year.
 


Chris Williamson

A teacher with the Durham District School Board, Chris has been with the Durham Attack Volleyball Club from the very start.  As a thirteen-year coaching veteran, Chris has coached in all divisions of the competitive program and is the founder of the Durham Attack House League program and the Summer Camp. 

He was the Assistant Coach at the University of Guelph during the 2004-2005 season and has assisted with the Ontario Provincial B team and traveled to Winnipeg as a guest coach with the Youth National team.  Chris moonlights as a lacrosse and baseball coach for his twelve-year-old son.

Chris was named the Ontario Volleyball Association Coach of the Year in 2004.  Perhaps his proudest accomplishment, though, is that he was the potato sack race champ of EQAO.

Slightly lower on the accomplishment scale, he has coached numerous teams to National Championships, his latest being the 2007 16U Black team that were Ontario Champions and National East & West Champions.  In 2009 Chris coached our 16U girls to Ontario and Nationals West Silver medals. 

As we implement LTAD within the Club and we have identified resources with the skills required to develop our younger players.  Chris has taken on the role of developing our 14U Red girls for 2009-2010.
 


Nina Zarosky

This is Nina's third season coaching with Durham Attack. She played high school volleyball and was an original member of the Ganaraska Wolves.  After her club career Nina played for Seneca College and helped them to win back-to-back OCAA championships and CCAA bronze medals.

Nina has more than 20 years of experience as a player and this has translated into great experience for coaching.  She is very passionate about volleyball and still plays today.

Nina coaches because she wants to give back to the sport that she loves, and her daughter now shares the same passion.

Mike Bossence

This is Mike’s 6th year with the Durham Attack Volleyball Club.  He has been assisting with Scott Burrows at Boys House League since the 2005 season.  He is a Level 1 certified OVA coach preparing for his Level 2.  Mike also played with Durham Attack for 4 years and is an all-position player.
 


Scott Burrows

Scott is the President and founder of the Durham Attack Volleyball Club.  He is the Head Coach of Durham Attack Boys.  A level 3 certified volleyball coach, former York University varsity player and former Provincial Team coach, Scott has coached numerous high school and Durham Attack teams over the years.

On Fridays throughout the volleyball season Scott can be found personally coaching players at our boys house league program and building Durham Attack the grass roots way, from the bottom up, one player at a time. 

This year Scott will be providing mentorship to all of our boys team coaches.
 


Lawrence Flynn

Lawrence has just completed his sixth year with Durham Attack, having coached with 14U, 15U and 16U boys.  In 2006 he was part of the coaching team that helped to win Gold for Attack at Tier 1 provincials and Silver at Nationals in Sherbrooke.  In 2007 his team was very close to the medals - finishing 4th at Nationals.

Prior to joining Durham Attack Lawrence played many roles in the most successful National team program in Volleyball Canada history, Team Canada Disabled Volleyball.  He retired as an athlete after winning a Silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Sydney Australia and continues as a member of the disabled volleyball committee.  Lawrence is also a volunteer with the Canadian Paralympic Committee helping to prepare teams to represent Canada in future Paralympic games.
 


Chris Gruchy

As a Physical Education teacher for all grades at Applecroft Public School, Chris has coached numerous sports including volleyball, basketball, track & field, and badminton.  In three years of teaching he has led four teams to the DEAA Final Four, with three of these being boys volleyball teams.

At the club level Chris played for the Scarborough Solars Volleyball Club.  As a varsity athlete Chris played on both the baseball and volleyball teams at Brock University.

Chris has a Bachelor of Sport Management degree from Brock University, and a Master of Human Kinetics degree from the University of Windsor.

We're thrilled to have Chris join the Durham Attack coaching family for 2009, where he will be instrumental in developing our 15U boys.
 


Glenn Imperial

With our club for the past six years, Glenn is a teacher at Ajax High School where he coaches boys volleyball.  He was an assistant coach on the 18U Red team in the 2004-2005 season and a member of the 17U Provincial Champions coaching staff.  He helped coach our 2006 18U team to Provincial 18U and 20U championships, and coached 17U Red in 2007-2008.  In 2008-2009 Glenn ran our 14U boys program.

His jovial disposition and his understanding of the young athlete allow him to share his knowledge of the game of volleyball and instill the importance of integrity and character into the athletes he coaches.

Starting in the Fall of 2009 Glenn has also taken on the role of Assistant Coach for the Ryerson University womens volleyball team, working under former OVA Technical Director Dustin Reid.

For 2009-2010 Glenn will be coaching our 15U Black boys.
 


Hoi Leung

Hoi is a Vice-Principal with the Durham District School Board.  In his past roles as a teacher Hoi has worked with troubled students, in both the elementary and secondary panel, and brings with him a vast knowledge of both volleyball and youth. 

Before joining the Durham Attack in 2003, he was a coach with the Bronte Beach Club.  Hoi has worked at all levels of volleyball in the Province, leading the Region 4 to a summer games bronze in 1998, assisting with both the Men’s 2000 Provincial team and with the Women’s 2005 provincial team who won Gold at Canada Summer Games in Regina.   He was also an Assistant Coach with the University of Toronto women's team. 

With Durham Attack, Hoi has had great success leading the 18U program and has had five of his athletes named to the 2005 Women’s Provincial team and seen a number of his athletes receive full scholarships.

After a brief leave of absence after the birth of his daughter Andorra, Hoi has returned to support our boys teams. 
 


Michael May

Michael returns to us in 2009-2010 to work with Ryan McIntosh and Scott Burrows to build a solid foundation for our boys side of the Club in our 14U program.

Michael had a successful playing career with Durham Attack, including winning the boys' National Championship in 1999, and playing for Region 4 in the Ontario Summer Games.  He won the Outstanding Achievement award in 1997 and 1999.  Michael was Athlete of the Year at Henry Street in 2002 and volleyball MVP.  Michael went on to play OUA varsity baseball while studying engineering at McMaster University, where he was named to the OUA first all-star team in 2007.

As an assistant coach of our 18U boys team in 2008-2009, Michael helped coach them to a provincial bronze medal and top ten national finish.  He also coached the 2008 Henry Street senior boys volleyball team to a top 4 finish.

We're excited to have Michael back and look for great things in 14U!
 


Ryan McIntosh

Ryan returns to us in 2009-2010 to work with Michael May and Scott Burrows to build a solid foundation for our boys side of the Club in our 14U program.

Ryan had a successful six year playing career with Durham Attack, including winning two Provincial and two National championships, and the OVA Award of Excellence.  He attended Anderson Collegiate where he won a AAAA OFSAA Championship. 

Ryan went on to play OCAA varsity volleyball at Seneca College, where he was named Rookie of the Year and was an OCAA All-Star.   He has also played for College of the Rockies in BC, and Durham College where he won the team Leadership Award.

As a coach he has coached in the Durham Attack house league. for the 20U Provincials team at College of the Rockies, and as an assistant coach of our 18U boys team in 2008-2009, which won a provincial bronze medal and top ten national finish.

We're excited to have Ryan back and look for great things in 14U!
 


Mike Richardson

Mike is the head coach of our 16U boys for 2009-2010.  Mike played varsity for McMaster University while studying Physical Education, and received Rookie of the Year honours for the team’s 1984/1985 season. His play continued in OVA and on the inaugural Pro Beach series throughout the 1990’s.

Mike began coaching while at McMaster, leading the Westdale Senior Boys to appearances in AAA Boys’ OFSAA for the two years he coached them. His coaching continued at the High School level for nearly ten years while in the Scarborough Board of Education for Maplewood High School.  He has also enjoyed coaching baseball, soccer, hockey and curling for both his daughter Randi’s and son Patrick’s early years.

Mike joined Durham Attack 2007 as an Assistant Coach with the U14 Boys Black along side Andrew Brubacher. Since then he has taken on Head Coaching duties for both the 15U and 16U Boy’s Black teams over the past two seasons, leading the 15U Boys to a Gold medal in Tier II at the Ontario Provincial Championships last year.  The athletes and coaching staff are looking for more success this year as they prepare for the Ontario and National Championsh
ips this spring.

Anne Botica-Grover

Anne Botica-Grover, newly married on August 10, is a former Ohio State University player.   She is a teacher in the Durham Catholic District School Board.  Originally from Windsor, she represented the Ontario Provincial Team from 1994-1997 and was a part of the Canada Games Team.  Anne received a scholarship to play for Ohio State University where she was a starting outside hitter.  Anne graduated in 2002 and finished her career as a member of the 12-player Mid-West Regional All star team.  She has received numerous Big Ten Player selections and Big Ten player of the week recognitions.

After her playing career, she accepted a coaching position at Ohio University, a Division I institution where she was assistant coach and helped the team win two Conference Championships.  Not only has she coached at both the club and university level, she has also coached a Sr. Boys and Girls High School Team in Windsor. 

She recently re-visited Ohio State where she worked with coach Jim Stone at his summer camps.

Anne was an assistant coach with Durham Attack during the 2006-2007 season, working with the U15 Black squad that won the National Championship in Moncton. 

She is leading our 17U girls program for the 2007-2008 season and will be head coach of 17U Black.
 


Andrew Brubacher

After coaching the 14U boys for two seasons, Andrew is taking some time off to spend with his new daughter Lauren, born just four days after 2008 Provincials.
 

Julie Clark Julie Clark has been with the Durham Attack volleyball club for three years.  She has worked with athletes age 13-16 and was an assistant coach with both the 16U Black Provincial Champions (2004), the 14U Black Provincial and National Champions (2005), and the 15U Black National and Provincial Champions (2006). 

Julie is a high school coach at Ajax High School where she is dedicated to developing a quality program and encouraging athletes to play the game of volleyball.  When Julie is not coaching, you will find her in a gym or on a field playing basketball, volleyball, soccer ultimate frisbee or hockey.

Julie and Tom are taking some time off volleyball to spend time with their new daughter Hannah Chloe Clark, born during Nationals East 2006.
 


Tom Clark Tom Clark is a teacher at Port Perry High school.  With his stoic manner and his strong knowledge of the game, Tom is an excellent asset to the club.  Working with Evan and Julie Clarke, Tom was a member of the 14U squad (2005) and the 15U squad (2006) that won both Provincial and National titles both years.  An avid athlete in his own right, Tom is a hockey player and coaches both varsity hockey and soccer at Port Perry High School.

Melissa Cook

A former volleyball player and figure skater, Melissa is no stranger to hard work and determination and relishes the challenge of sharing her love of sport with the girls in our club.   Melissa played post-secondary volleyball at Niagara College, where as libero she earned the 2001-2002 Female Athlete of the Year award. 

Melissa has just completed her third season with the club.  In her first year, Melissa ran the 12U program and served as the head coach of the 12U Black Silver medalists.  In her second year she helped coach 16U Black to Provincial and  National East Championships.  In her third year she helped coach the 2007 16U Black team to Ontario, National East and National West championships.

Having thus accomplished just about all you can coaching at the club level in Canada, Melissa is taking some well-deserved time off this season with her new daughter Blake.  But we suspect you will see her around the gym now and then.
 


Darryl Cooper

Darryl has experience as a varsity player, as a coach, and in running a volleyball club.  He joined Durham Attack when his daughter joined our House League in 2004.  He later assisted in coaching the 12U White team in 2005/06.   This year Darryl is head coach of our 13U Red team.

Darryl played for the Humber College varsity team for 3 years.  Prior to joining Durham Attack Darryl was a founding member of the Thistletown Volleyball Club in 1978 where he played, coached boys and girls at all levels, and was the President up until 2003.

Darryl owns his own rental company and can be found camping, golfing, or playing squash in his spare time.
 


Tara Darling

Tara joins us from British Columbia, where she coached with the Coquitlam Ducks Volleyball Club. She will be helping coach our 17U Black girls this year.
 


Patti Darlington

Patti is is a great addition to our boys' program this year and is thrilled to be back coaching again at the Club level.  Patti has a Phys. Ed degree from McMaster and has been teaching for 20 years.  She has her level 1 Technical and levels 1/2 Theory certifications and has coached volleyball at the high school level in Ottawa and Mississauga for 12 years, coaching Jr. and Sr., Boys and Girls Volleyball and Sr. Coed Volleyball.

She coached the U15 girls with the Mavericks Volleyball club in Ottawa.  She is a Provincial Referee and has been secretary of the Region 6 Referee's Association for 3 years.

If that's not enough volleyball, she has played on and coached competitive Women's and Mixed league teams, and represented the Island of Jersey, England, on their island team in the inter-island games.

Jamie Dixon

A former university player at St. Francis Xavier in Antigonish, NS, Jamie is a teacher with the Durham Catholic District School Board at St. Christopher's Elementary School.  He has coached senior boys elementary school volleyball for the past 15 years. 

Jamie continues to play today as a member of the OECTA volleyball team.  He loves the sport, especially setting, and is a great resource for fitness training. 
 


Scott Handley Scott has a long and storied volleyball career.  After degrees in Physical Education and Sports Admin from University of Lethbridge, Scott has spent more than 20 years in volleyball.   He is fully NCCP Level 1 and 2 certified, and has his Level 3 Technical certification.

Brian Hazelwood Brian is a "dad-turned-coach" who joined the coaching ranks in the 2004 season as an assistant coach with the 14U Silver team. A rookie, he quickly embraced the nuances of the game and was very proud of their girls when they won the 14U tier 4, Gold medal.  In his second season Brian assisted the 14U Black team that won a National Championship and a Quebec Provincial Championship.  In his third season Brian again helped coach 15U Black to a National Championship.
 

Kevin Hoadley

Kevin is a teacher with the Durham Catholic District School Board.  After twenty years of coaching at the elementary level Kevin is now at Monsignor John Pereyma, where he coached the Sr. Boys and Sr. Girls teams to LOSSA AA volleyball championships in 2005 and 2006.

Kevin will bring a lot of enthusiasm to the practice court as well as a great deal of knowledge of fitness training.  Kevin still plays with the OECTA volleyball team. 

Dave Horne

Dave has joined the Durham Attack 15U Black team as an assistant coach.  Previously he coached in our house league, helping our younger recreational players improve their skills while having fun.  After enjoying it so much he helped coach the 14U Black team, and is continuing with U15 Black.

Dave has been actively involved as a competitor in sports for most of his life and hopes to bring his enthusiasm, sportsmanship and insight to the girls.  He also has his own golf club making business and instructs in his spare time.  Dave is looking forward to working with his fellow coaches and players this season.
 


Mark Jackson In his third year as a Durham Attack coach, Mark has a wealth of coaching experience, with extensive experience as a certified level 2 coach in both Tennis and Badminton. Mark is also a certified first aid and CPR instructor.

Like many of our coaches Mark decided to join our coaching ranks after both he and his daughter became volleyball fanatics. After coaching 13U Black last year Mark's focus will be the 14U Red team.

 

Barry Johnson

Barry has been a member of the Durham Attack Volleyball Club for six years now; four as a parent volunteer and the last three coaching.  After watching both Lindsay and Michael play with the club, the volleyball bug had taken hold and Barry joined the coaching ranks in the 2003-2004 season as the head coach of the very first Durham Attack 14U Silver team.  Barry quickly built a rapport with the team and taught his girls fundamental defensive and offensive skills that allowed them to continually improve throughout the year.   

In the 2004-2005 campaign, Barry returned and was head coach of the 14U Red team that were Bronze medalists at the Nationals.  In 2006 Barry coached his team to the 15U National Tier 2 championship.  His quiet manner and no-nonsense approach has allowed his players to develop and grow as athletes. 

If you look at our 2007 16U Black team that has won two straight National championships virtually every player has been coached by Barry at one time or another.

Barry & Karen are taking the 2007-2008 season off as they support Lindsay and Mike who are playing university ball at Lakehead and UNB respectively.
 


Karen Johnson

Karen has just completed her second year as a Durham Attack coach.   An avid club supporter for the last four years, Karen jumped into the coaching arena and was an assistant coach for the 14U and 15U Red teams, which were National 14U Tier 1 Bronze medalists and National 15U Tier 2 champions.  

Karen also received an award from the Ontario Volleyball Association, recognizing her volunteer commitment to volleyball in Ontario.  A nurse, former Durham Attack parent, and mother of two children playing University volleyball (see alumni page), Karen brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for the game to our club.

Barry & Karen are taking the 2007-2008 season off as they support Lindsay and Mike who are playing university ball at Lakehead and UNB respectively.
 


Gerard Mandville

Gerard is a teacher with the Durham Catholic District School Board at Monsignor John Pereyma.  He currently Coaches with the Senior Girls and Boys Volleyball Teams, winning a LOSSA AA Gold Medal in 2006 with the boys and 2002 with the Girls.

Gerard still plays volleyball with the OECTA volleyball team and brings a lot of knowledge to the club. 
He will be coaching 16U Red.
 

Melissa McGregor Melissa, a teacher at R.S. McLaughlin Secondary School, was an assistant coach with the 15U Black team in 2004.  Her knowledge of volleyball, as she is both a high school coach and a level 1 official, is a tremendous benefit to the club.  Joining us later in the season, Melissa quickly embraced the challenge of working with the girls and is always willing to lend a hand wherever she is needed.  Melissa is looking forward to returning next year and being a member of the selection process and the competitive program.
 

Genevieve Milot

 

Genevieve is a French teacher at Ajax High School and is currently finishing her level 2 NCCP volleyball certification.  She played college volleyball at CEGEP de Victoriaville in Quebec, and plays co-ed beach volleyball every summer. 

She has been coaching both junior and senior (boys and girls) high school volleyball for 5 years. She volunteered with the Durham Attack 18U girls' team last season, and learned a lot from coaches Tine Lee and Robert Chung.   She is back assisting with our 17U/18U program this year, where our girls will defend their Provincial Championship. 

Genevieve is helping coach our 17U Girls team that is building on last year's success in winning Provincial and National titles.
 


Jean Neilly

Jean has taught with the Durham Board for almost 28 years and has coached volleyball there for all but 5 years, using those years to concentrate on being a single parent of one son, Keith.

She played high school volleyball with a passion. This passion has been carried over to hundreds of girls at the elementary school level.  Her school team won the Regionals in 2000, were runners-up in her area last year and just won the Areas this year, putting them back into the Sweet 16.

Durham Attack has been a part of her life for 5 years.  Jean has her full NCCP Level 1 certification and has completed the Level 2 technical course successfully.  With Attack she has coached 14U, 15U and 13U.

The best part for Jean is working with girls who have a passion for volleyball and seeing them develop into skillful players who demonstrate integrity and good sportsmanship.

She is looking forward to a fun and successful year with 14U Black this season.
 


Adam Pelton Adam is a teacher with the Durham District School Board.  A graduate of Brock University, Adam was a member of the varsity team.  As a head coach, Adam worked with the 15U Red team in the 2004-2005 season and taught the girls the importance of passion for the game of volleyball.  In 2005-2006 Adam helped coach our 14U girls to an Ontario Silver medal, the Quebec championship and the National title. 

During 2006-2007 Adam coached the 17U Boys team.  He and Katie coached the team again during 2007-2008 in 18U.

Adam is taking some time off to send with his new son William Pelton, born the day after 2008 Provincials.
 


Katie Pelton

A graduate of Niagara College, Katie played on the varsity squad.  As a female athlete with college experience, Katie is able to share her knowledge of the skills required for post secondary play.  Katie works as the Recreation Director in a nursing home when not in the gym.

She was the assistant coach with the 15U Red team for the 2004-2005 season, and in 2005-2006 helped coach the 14U girls to an Ontario Silver medal, the Quebec championship and the National title. 

During 2006-2007 Katie coached the 17U Boys team.  She and Adam coached the team again during 2007-2008 in 18U.

Katie is taking some time off to send with her new son William Pelton, born the day after 2008 Provincials.
 


Paul Switzer Paul, our proverbial "Batman" has been with the club for four years now.  A hockey and lacrosse fan, Paul easily made the transition to volleyball where he shared his love of sport, his passion for life and his comic nature with all.  Paul began as an assistant coach with the Midget program before making the transition to head coach in the 14U program.  As the coach for the 14U White team for the last two seasons, Paul took great pride in providing opportunities for girls to learn the game of volleyball.  His joy of seeing an athlete develop is evident in everything he does.
 

Stephanie Toms Durham Attack is pleased to have Stephanie join our club as a new coach this year, as she has a depth of volleyball experience to share with her players.

Stephanie is a grade one French Immersion teacher who loves coaching both girls and boys volleyball.  After playing Club volleyball with Scarborough Solars for five years Stephanie played varsity volleyball at the University of Waterloo.  She has played in the regional games and Ontario Summer Games and presently plays in a womens' league. 

Stephanie's debut with Attack will be in our 14U program, where player development and teaching proper technical skills is critical.
 


Keith Wills Keith Wills comes to the Durham Attack Volleyball Club with a wealth of expertise and experience gathered over 16 years of coaching.  In the 2004/05 season, he was the head coach of the 15U Black team that won a Gold medal at the Tier 2 Provincials and finished fifth overall in Sherbrooke at the 15U Eastern Canadian Nationals.  Prior to that he was an instructor and volleyball coach at Medicine Hat College in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and a member of both the East Kootenay Volleyball Club and the Air Attack Volleyball Club.

When not coaching with Durham Attack, Keith is the head coach at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough and represents Region 4 as the coaching chair.  The past three summers Keith has been the head coach of the Region 4 team at the Ontario Summer Games and Regional Games.  Keith’s vast knowledge of the skills and systems involved in the game and his quiet and gentle demeanor have made him a valuable asset to the OVA and to the Durham Attack Volleyball Club.

Keith has moved to Alberta in the Summer of 2009, to take on the position of head coach at Concordia University.
 


Dan Wong

Dan joined us in 2004 as a member of the U12 program.  As one of the coaches for the U12 White Sharks, he was instrumental in helping to teach young athletes the basic skills of volleyball.  A music teacher with the Durham District School Board, Dan is committed to sharing his love of sport with children in a humorous manner.
