Where Your Heart Is

Since February is the heart month, I would like to continue with the heart theme. Previously, I mentioned that the heart is considered to tbe seat of one's affections. This is seen in Matthew 6:21: "for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

We have multitudes whose hearts are set upon various treasures. Our hearts beat after our priorities. We give ourselves for what we consider to be most important. For where our treasure is, there will be our heart. Numberless people give themselves in order to gain wealth and material. But the Bible asks this question in Mark 8:36: "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Man cannot exchange the material for eternal life.

Notice God's warning in Matthew 6:19: "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal." Earthly goods perish with time and never enter into eternity.

Next, notice God's exhortation in verse 20: "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal." Remember, "for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Where are your treasures--on earth or in heaven?
