Today I would like to share with you a few thoughts on prayer found in Psalm 37:4-5.

In verse 4, we read: "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." What a promise! Here we are told how we can receive the desires of our heart. And who wouldn't desire that? How de we get the desires of our heart? By delighting ourselves in the Lord. This promise is unlimited, yet is is safeguarded from misuse. For to get our desires, we must make the Lord our delight. If we delight in Him, we will not desire from our heart that which will displease Him. In other words, we cannot live for ourselves and expect the Lord to give us what we desire. For under those circumstances, we would be desiring selfish things.

God deals with this in James 4:3: "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts." If we are living for self and what this would have to offer us, then we will not be delighting in the Lord. To delight in the Lord is the key that unlocks this promise and gives us the desires of our heart.

Beloved, delight yourself in Him.
