Life Lines - Matthew 7:9-10

Now let's go back to Matthew 7:9-10: "Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?" What kind of a father would do that? The real thrust of these verses is found in verse 11:

If ye then, being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children, HOW MUCH MORE [here we see all constrasts and no similarity] shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?

He does not give stone for bread, nor serpents for fish, but good things. This is the fulfillment of verses 7-8.

Now let's make application. Search your heart. What do you need in your spiritual life? For what does you heart long? We all have our struggles and needs. What we believers need spiritually is the very best God can and does give. Such are the good things that God gives to them that ask Him.

Remember, God's responsibility is to fulfill--keep His Word, His promises. Man's responsibity is to be on praying ground and pray, believing. When our need is not met, who has failed, God or man?

Now as we close out this study on praying and receiving, let's search our hearts, confess our needs, and ask Him to give us those good things we need--those good things He has promised to give them that ask Him. Then claim these promises and thank Him for those good gifts.
