Proper Position of Attention

  1. Body erect
  2. Eyes Forward
  3. Shoulders back
  4. Chest Out
  5. Stomach in
  6. Arms at your side
  7. Fingers folded, thumbs out and alongside the seams of slacks
  8. Knees slightly bent
  9. Heels together and aligned
  10. Toes at a 45 degree angle

Weapon Nomenclature

My rifle is a U.S. Garand model M-1, Mark 6, Mod 0, dummy bolt action, air cooled, gas operated, 30-caliber clip fed shoulder weapon; that is 40 inches long and weighs 10 pounds. Its maximum effective range is 600 yards from the prone position.

Purpose of Close-Order Drill
  1. To move cadets in an organized manner from place to place.
  2. To instill discipline within the unit.
  3. To increase confidence in unit leaders.
  4. To allow cadets to handle individual weapons.
  5. To provide formations from which combat formations could be readily assumed.
